The Problem With the USA’s Borders

It’s been over 60 years since a change to the American map has occurred. While that all might change with the recent DC and Puerto Rico statehood movements, this opens up the possibility to re-examine the internal divisions of the country and see if there are any better ways to break up the country.

Excerpts from “Chrysalis Extended” by Nia Imani Franklin performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra

This is my first large scale piece in a while. I’ve been focused on chamber music most of my career because it’s the easiest to get played. I am so happy and proud to have worked with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO). They are world class, and just a pleasure to collaborate with.

It’s a 5 minute piece in its entirety, but I’ve been cleared to post 3 minutes of it by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra due to union rules.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

LYRICS

The Devil in me likes a devil in you with the eyes of an angel I like what I see too
I know I’m making a mistake but what can I do, when eyes sweet as yours look at me the
way you do

What you wanna see besides my guarantee as precious as my time is I can’t make no
promises
What you wanna hear besides my darkest fears like a bat of hell I don’t have none

The Devil in me likes a devil in you with the eyes of an angel I like what I see too
I know I’m making a mistake but what can I do, when eyes sweet as yours look at me the
way you do
What you wanna know besides my self control well if you want control I don’t have none

What you wanna be besides inside of me boy it’s obvious I’m not that easy
The Devil in me likes a devil in you with the eyes of an angel I like what I see too
I know I’m making a mistake but what can I do, when eyes sweet as yours look at me the
way you do
And in the in-between I wonder what it is you do
Cause you know that I want to, the angel on your shoulder talking to you

Len Johnson: British Boxing Champion | Drunk History: Black Stories

Watch Drunk History: Black Stories to learn a thing or two about historical Black figures. But be careful, drink responsibly.

Told by actors Kevin “KG” Garry and Travis Jay, this is the story of Len Johnson, a middleweight boxing champion who was never granted the title he deserved due to the white establishment. Despite beating almost every boxer he faced, including the legendary Ted Lewis, the British Boxing Board of Control imposed a ‘colour bar’ that meant both contestants had to be “born of white parents” in a title fight. So he was never awarded a title. In frustration Len retired from boxing and decided to bring his fight against the colour bar to a new arena. After being denied a drink at a local pub for being black he organised a big protest to have the ban lifted. His success inspired others and led to the drive to end the so-called ‘colour bar’. Len’s story is one of a denied legacy, but he will always be the champ to us!

This startup prints camera lenses like computer chips, 10,000 at a time: full EM spectrum sensing

A new startup out of Harvard Labs has invented a way to print camera lenses 5,000 at a time just like computer chips, and in the same semiconductor foundries that make our computer’s CPUs. They’re 100X thinner than standard smartphone camera lenses, are simpler and cheaper to make, sense the full electromagnetic spectrum — not just visible light — and have excellent 3D-sensing capabilities that could bring Lidar-based dimensional sensing functionality that’s currently only on high-end phones like the iPhone 12 to smartphones across the price spectrum.

In this episode of TechFirst with John Koetsier, I interview Metalenz co-founder Rob Devlin.
