Long post, so check behind the cut, if you please.
Today, I just started my first job ever. (No seriously…I did!)
It’s a job at the assisted living facility which is owned by (once AGAIN!) Mom’s church. So after 10:30 am (the time that my third and last class is done) each day, Mom will drop me off at the ASF, where I will stay from around 11:00 or 11:30 am to 6:00 pm, cleaning, taking out trash, helping with the kitchen, accomodating the clients (most of them aged 70+ years) as much as possible.
It’s gonna be a long day (but at least I will be getting paid in 2 weeks. $5.25 an hour is the set wage). However, I dread the next day, and whatever it may bring.
Also, I’ve finally decided that the “I’ll only attend college on the West Coast” idea will have to be shelved for the time being. Instead, I will at least try to accomodate those particular schools which are, and have been, sending me promo/recruiting material. My eyes have now turned toward (OMG!) Penn State, whose College of Tech and Arts has sent me material in the mail more than once (since the previous fall, in fact). Although I’ve often shelved their material (like I’ve done with most other colleges which have been trying to recruit me for quite a while), I now think that it would be better to see if they have any openings available for the Fall Semester/Quarter coming up. Hopefully, they’ll send me material in the mail again (including a paper application, of course) soon enough.
Hopefully, if it does go through, I’ll be able to adjust to Pennsylvania in some way or another….
And finally, computer ideas…
First off, I’ve converted from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox as far as my default Internet Browser is concerned. So far, the utilization of Firefox’s features (including downloadable plugins and extensions) is proving to be better than with IE. However, I’ve been juggling the idea of actually converting this entire hard drive from Windows XP to Mac OS X.
Now see, the last time that I’ve ever touched a Mac was back in elementary school (for those who were in public elementary school back in the early 90’s, who can forget those educational math/logic games that we had to play during “computer time”? Memories still remind me of such games as the “Island of Doctor Quandary” and some game that featured the Amazon River…). However, I’ve read that Apple has evolved rather quickly since then, and so has its trademark operating system, Mac(intosh), and although most of the known world has converted to the Windows series (making Bill Gates a sort of Antichrist figure, lmao! nah, just kidding), the newest Mac OS is actually better than the latest Windows, especially in terms of security (the same gripe over security has created the migration of several millions of IE users to other internet browsers, like Firefox and Opera).
So, when I finally get my first paycheck, the first thing that I’m going to buy is the software version of the Mac OS X (either the present “Panther” or the upcoming “Tiger”), in order to clear my hard drive of all possible Windows data and replace it with the Mac OS X software. How do I do that?
PS: I’ve already checked both Office Depot and Wal-Mart for any Apple or Macintosh software, but for some reason, neither of them have it (aargh!), so I might have to buy it online at any price that may reside under AT LEAST $60 (or $50). Any ideas on that as well?
