The thing about Yahoo

I’ve been taking notice of Yahoo’s 360 blog service recently. In fact, I’ve started up one myself, with absolutely no intention to actually use it, lol.

See, the reason why I’m not departing from Livejournal’s service anytime soon is….well, there are a few which stick out like sore thumbs.

1. Yahoo is shameless. I mean, they are an Internet behemoth that rivals Google and MSN, and it also has a strong, old-guard hand to play in the entertainment industry (both on and off-line), but on every possible Yahoo page, besides the ever-pestilent third-party ads, you’ll see “YAHOO! YAHOO! YAHOO!” just screaming at your eyes while you try to find some simplicity, some minimalism, some BREATHING SPACE. And frankly, I’m claustrophobic as far as the internet is concerned. I hate heavy graphics. I hate looking at a clouded page, filled to the brim with things which you might need less than others.

2. In light of #1., I would like to mention that Livejournal has almost *ALWAYS* been respectful of personal space, even in a public setting. Hence, the fact that any userinfo page on LJ is always stripped down and simplistic, thus allowing for breathing space as far as personal bios are concerned (in case if people want to add graphics of any degree to that same area of the page, and they do on a regular basis).

3. Livejournal simply has a better service. Period. So does Google, but that’s another thing.

I wonder if there are a couple of Greasemonkey scripts which allow you to minimize the sections of the 360 front page, as well as to completely nuke the unnecessary others.

Simply put, Yahoo doesn’t know how to act with blogging, which is probably why 360 isn’t even going to be taken seriously anytime soon.

Off to dinner, peace.

    1. They could be better with their attitude toward us lowly common folk, y’know?

In fact, while Googling “greasemonkey+yahoo+360”, just came across this article at 90% Crud: http://george.hotelling.net/90percent/geekery/yahoo_360.php

In it, among other things, he mentions that they should’ve had 360 around 5 years ago with Geocities (even though THAT sucks, too).

I tried to find a couple of Greasemonkey pagehackings for Firefox, but, sadly, they only have one out for adding Yahoo maps to 360.

Y’know, just screw this. Yahoo was a day late and a dollar short. Plus, they actually had the NERVE of having Yahoo members (as far as messenger, mail, music, and so forth is concerned) REGISTER SEPARATELY FOR YAHOO 360.

      WTF?!1!

    2. OK…calmed down…..*is burning from the mental explosion*

I don’t know if Yahoo likes to take this stance of the intolerable slumlord who will kill the residents in the dark while still painting the walls all pretty and pink.

Or is it blue and beige, superimposed on off-white……

What’s wrong with them? Are they a bunch of *special* (wink wink) people running Yahoo from San Jose?
