On the other hand I’ve heard that there’s been a strong outcry there to this.
Sidney Morning Herald noted that “An opinion poll published on Tuesday showed that 82 per cent wanted the Government to do something to stop the new party.”
But this comment really confuses me “And they wonder why other most countries don’t want to legalize marijuana, let alone to the extent that NL has gone…..” Exactly what does one issue have to do with the other? By the debate I saw here in Canada about the issue nobody really bothered to even bring up the Netherlands other than to say that they’d done it and the country hadn’t imploded.
Well, yes, its most likely a misguided comment on my part, but the reason why I mentioned it is because in the U.S., the Netherlands (or at least just Amsterdam) is usually associated with a somewhat greater general acceptance of stuff that would be considered either taboo or illegal in the states (like weed or gay marriage). Or so goes the media and the common mindset (most stoner flicks, such as Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, will have an obligatory reference to Amsterdam somewhere in the film).
