Meta Quest 3 : Rez Infinite Area X Mixed Reality OUTSIDE in daylight : using battery pack

right this time I’m waking a Ravpower 20000 Mah battery pack worn in my pocket not adding to the 500g on my head. Using this I was able to play through the same amount of Rez ( around 47 minutes streamed using VR Desktop and captured using the recording app)

this ran down the battery to 51% : note having a battery pack doesn’t charge the Meta Quest 3 faster than it uses up charge, so we are just slowing it running down not preventing it running down.

the same will apply if we play with Oculus Link wired to PC : even the official cable can’t keep it charged indefinitely

which means it cannot be used for lengthy sessions like wired PC and PSVR HMDs.

unless you plug the very short charge cable in? Which makes it useless

cf Hololens 1 which I kept going 4.5 hours in ones session

the issue with pass through is the solid nature of what would appear as transparent holograms on waveguide and bird bath HMDS

this is stereoscopic VR overlaid on a video feed as such it is not as impressive

not being able to see through “holograms” creates it’s own issues when using a HMD that requires movement can you think how and why? Meta Reality Labs can’t …

setting aside the background fakery, in the recording app : the walls in the room are not that white in the HMD, they become whiter and brighter in the recording app after the experience

I’ve been augmenting Rez since Dreamcast days and since 2014 on wireless HMDS in this very room

even if you doubled the battery you could barely play through half the game and maybe if you’re quick Area X which I do here

on the Metaglasses 2 you’ll see me play through the whole game in one session.

at that point we consider Meta Quest 3 is a cruder implementation of AR, doctored recording and therefore fake representation of the actual experience, with rudimentary slam you really have to set up manually to get right and then only large flat surfaces, it only works in certain light and will need to be wired to last the duration of and not just 30s tiktok video of any serious task. Before we consider it’s heavier, sweatier and has no peripheral vision cf other FOV2GOVR sired face bras
