In Defense of Sword and Soul

ImaroIf you’re a frequent visitor of my blog, you’ve seen me talk about Imaro. You’ve seen me post about it’s impact on me as a reader and writer. I’ve stopped just short of arguing that it should be considered among canonical SFF texts, right there with the works of all the racist grandpas. I am constantly elevating Imaro, indeed, all of the works that have been inspired by that original collection, because of the singular space that it/they occupy in the genre, and because of the inspiration that they continue to provide me.

What exactly is a “nerd”?

A nerd is defined as a person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

Nerdiness exists on a continuum. Some people are a little nerdy, while others are very nerdy. The more nerdy you are, the more oblivious of yourself as a social object you tend to be, which leads you to behave in socially awkward ways, such as dressing badly, or failing to take subtle hints.

The onset of nerdiness tends to come early in life and people often grow out of being nerds; rarely, if ever, does someone become a nerd later in life.

Ultimately, I don’t think I’d be suited toward the strictures of marriage. I’ve advocated in my own little ways for marriage equality, but I think that the level of marriage requires an equal amount of romance and a sense of attraction with which I can’t keep up.

Always interesting when right-wing political types claim to experience persecution and intolerance from the powers that be (or activists) for their conservatism. Liberals hardly claim such for their liberalism. Socialists hardly claim such for their socialism. But conservatives claim such for their conservatism. Why?
