Missy Elliott and her frequent collaborators have produced over two decades of music videos that we are going to attempt to justify as Afrofuturistic work. Grab your inflatable trash bags, as we take a stroll down memory lane.

Sampling isn’t about “hijacking nostalgia wholesale,” says Mark Ronson. It’s about inserting yourself into the narrative of a song while also pushing that story forward. Watch the DJ scramble 15 TED Talks into an audio-visual omelette, and trace the evolution of “La Di Da Di,” Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick’s 1984 hit that has been reimagined for every generation since.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design — plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more.

Lyrics:

I’m indiscreet
Don’t tell on me please
I love to be
Full of misery

I never see
How things relate to me
Just leave me be
I wanna be

Free i’m gone
Too many times to know
What to do in my shoes

Know I’ve got
Too many holes to cover
Lose the mask and i’m on

Lose the mask and i’m goin’
Somewhere where these other lovers can’t stay
I try to be
What everybody sees

The rest of me
Made it all retreat

And suddenly
A part of me sleeps
Inside of me
It wants to be

Summer-tinged and mesmeric from the get-go, ‘Body’ puts shame to the catchiest songs of the season. From the well-timed vocals of brando to the upbeat chords and meticulous arrangement, it makes for a record that never falters. Heeding the cries of music lovers for quality music, this brilliant production from Loud Luxury is on a level of its own.
