“Monday, monday”

Hot water’s off, so I’m still impatiently waiting for a chance at the shower. Argh….

Well, here’s what I’ve been trying out:

Shareaza P2P Client – great P2P client. Trillian-like in its approach to the Gnutella, Bittorrent, iMesh, and Ed2k networks, but, just as most bloggers have described Trillian, Shareaza only provides a semblance of P2P unity to those three networks. You’re OK with Gnutella and iMesh on Shareaza, but come Ed2k, there are so many snags that you run into (plus, from the very getgo, you are immediately notified that you don’t have any working server.met URLs [those files which allow you to access Ed2K, in the same way as how GWebCaches allow you to access the Gnutella network and whatever is on there – the more of either URLs you cover, the further access to files you’ll receive]; truth is, there really aren’t any working server.met URLs at ALL). Furthermore, Bittorrent is obviously something that I don’t want to get into due to the constant hindrances which I’ve received in the past with trying to search or properly aggregate torrent files (almost exclusively on an http basis as there simply isn’t any way to search/aggregate them outside of such). Therefore, the problem that I see with Shareaza isn’t actually the client at all: its the fucking disunity and disfunction between protocols that I am simply FED UP with. I honestly don’t care about Bittorrent being all that and a bag of chips, or how many search engines there are for Torrents: if I can’t seek for it in a P2P client like I would with Gnutella or any other network, then its not worth my time. Furthermore, what the fuck is up with EDonkey?! Forget this: I’ll stick to Gnutella and iMesh until those other two networks can get themselves straight. Thus, Shareaza is OK, but it could be better if the other two protocols weren’t so fucked up.

Last.fm – I’ll get back to you all on this. However, my advice so far: both the player .exe and audioscrobbler plugins are screwed, so your Windows (whatever version, expectedly XP) won’t install either (MyLast.fm doesn’t get any further, either). Instead, DL the ZIP archive of the player, which has a version that your system will allow for installation.

X-Chat – Great IRC client, would be more enjoyable if I wasn’t raised upon IM so much (such has practically rendered me oblivious to IRC or anything IRC related). Now if only they allowed for search and aggregation for IRC rooms from WITHIN IRC.

More in another post. Plus, I’m still considering setting up a new blog at Blogspot or Typepad and discontinuing this one. I mean, LJ is the best at what it does, but I’ve seen that, while Blogspot is far more conducive to the Blogosphere phenomena that has arisen within the past year or so, LJ is more of a balance between blogging and social connecting, and as such, most of the blogging and resulting commentary on LJ is primarily socially-oriented: I guess you can call LJ a “blogging BBS” of sorts.

However, there are some times that I want to get my thoughts out on a specific subject, one which I know isn’t going to win the commentary or appeal of most of the folks who are watching this blog. Thus, at those particular times, I honestly wouldn’t want to worry about a dearth of commentary or response. Therefore, I have decided that I will set up a new blog outside of LJ in the near future (which, of course, I will syndicate for LJ). I will most likely retain this one for social connections, blog syndications, communities, and posting about stuff which I know will engender a response of some kind.

Peace out.

  1. I love Shareaza. I notice though alot of XP users have problems with it connecting to Edonkey though. As for IRC I never really used it much but I might check out Xchat.

    1. XP users? I’m wondering why that is….

Oh, and if XChat doesn’t work out for you, you might want to resort to the Chatzilla extension for Firefox. Tried it out in the past, works perfectly for handling the irc protocol.

Anyway, I’ll Google some stuff up on ED2K for XP….
