Honest comment on terrorism:

“While I may somewhat sympathize with sniping Jihadist terrorists for killing your own nationals on a tit-for-tat level, I may be taken the wrong way here, but, besides killing people in mercilessly-bloody ways (9/11, 7/7, etc.), I’ve always wondered exactly what type of threat that terrorists pose to Western civilization or to the nations in which they carry out their operations.

I mean, unless they can carry out organized guerilla warfare against an established government or rule (like Maoists in Nepal or the Soviet-era Taliban in Afghanistan), I fail to see the threat against said government from train-bombing, plane-downing terrorists. All they can do is piss off the government or shell-shock the living daylights out of the population, but never actually bring down the government or kill off the population; they don’t have the material, manpower, or morale to do either. All that they can do is blow themselves up in coffee shops and other similar things; despite what Hamas (a terrorist group, not a guerilla resistance group) has sworn to do, Israel hasn’t disappeared or fallen, but is sending tanks into West Bank suburbs, like it always does and for the same reasons as 20 or 30 years ago.

That’s why I think that we’re taking 9/11 and every other publicity stunt pulled by a terrorist organization *way* too seriously; these were quite expensive stunts (bodily, financially, and psychologically), but still stunts. The same with troll organizations such as GNAA or Bantown who carry out DDoS attacks against servers or bait unsuspecting users into eye-shock by a Goatse.cx pic or Last Measure.

They don’t pose a threat against Western civilization, only our sanity. They don’t pose a threat to Western liberties, only our scruples. They just need to be reined in like criminals, not like combatants; they *want* to be treated like combatants.

Why do you think Moussaoui will live the rest of his life in a supermax rather than face the chair? Because he was a criminal (like the jury saw him as), not a combatant (as he portrayed and saw himself). The same with all other terrorists, including Hamas.”

  1. When has Bantown ever launched a distributed denial of service attack on anyone? They are hackers, not packet kiddies. Please back this statement up.

    1. OK, after looking through Google, you’re right. They’re hackers (particularly account hijackers), not packet kiddies.

They *have* assisted in flooding raids, if that’s anything similar.

      1. No, it isn’t.

A DDoS attack is when multiple computers are given a few lines of code with the intent of sending an overload of data to a target. If it is successful, the target is taken completely offline. There is no style to it, any idiot can do perform a DDoS attack and there is pretty much no defense against it.

Neither GNAA nor Bantown have ever performed a DDoS attack. They focus solely on social engineering or application layer vulnerabilities. Frankly, the harmless pranks they pull are a public service that helps educate the public about common vulnerability classes. DDoS attacks are contemptable actions performed by unskilled, childish assholes.
