People get ready, there’s a Locomon a’comin?

It started here, and it ended up here, here and here.

Oh, and there’s a promo video.

Yes, this draws a “WTF” type of smirk from me. I’m a fan of the series (and I even answered this question in the form of an essay), but this is like…….WOW.

This could be bigger than Star Wars.

  1. hahahaha… wow.

I’ve always toyed with the idea of there being a digital world out there but I never really pursued it or anything. I mean, so what if there is? I’ve even toyed with the thought of writing some digimon-software things, but… religions and full out belief systems?

A little bit of fandom is great. A lot of fandom is wonderful. A full blown addiction and taking it THAT far is…. well, too much of a good thing might be a bad thing. Or however that goes. Not the country song though.

    o_O

      1. Ah. It was tagged as religion in your blog so I figured it must have been stated so somewhere else… or something.

Anyway yeah. I didn’t watch it all but I vaguely remember that ep. And I could see that. I guess a question that could come up is, was the idea of a “real” digital world vicariously learned from seeing that episode and then formulating the “theory” several years later, basically spitting out what they learned years ago? Or is it just a few individuals joining together in a group because they share the same beliefs. Maybe both I guess.

        Still though, it’s interesting.

      2. Well duh, of course its seemingly religious, LOL.

I just contrasted it to that episode because of how that episode’s developments gave off a “Jim Jones/People’s Temple” feeling.

“Yay, we’re going to the Digital World!” o_0

The rhetoric of the group in question, and the “Project DigiClipse” that is the subject of their discussion and endeavors, has me on similar edge, particularly their attitude towards so-called “unbelievers”.

Besides the obvious revulsion to such an idea from those who find it to be a childhood fantasy that is gaining too much belief baggage, I don’t get this “they hate us for our freedom” mentality that is being exhibited by those who espouse such beliefs.

If anything, they should focus more on how to realize their endeavor within rational, timely boundaries, rather than concern themselves with the job of keeping an aura of mystery around it.

When they maintain the mystery, then it will only become real to those who are attracted to the beauty of the shroud, not to the raw details of that which is being protected by the shroud.

I hope that the latter is not the case. If there is substance behind their quest, then I would like to get involved as well. But right now, I don’t see that substance, and I’m dissuaded by the words and attitude of those who are making a holy quest out of this.

Plus, isn’t the Digimon franchise something that is big-business-driven? That makes me question the very sanity of the RDB/DigiClipse folks. Are they trying to make a spirituality out of some 90’s fad that popped out of Bandai’s anus? What the heck is that?

  2. I guess AI that’s able to think for itself is plausable, but I wouldn’t say that we’re going to be seeing dinosaur digimon running around anytime soon…
I don’t think these kids are doing anything wrong, though. They can believe if they want, but I’m damn skeptical. XD

  3. Also, I don’t think it’s a religion, as you’ve tagged it. It looks more like a bunch of teenagers grouping together and talking about the things they like.
I don’t see any idols to worship or anything that makes it remotely like a religion.
